Grateful Acres is a non-profit, 501(c)3 tax exempt charitable organization, since 1993.Located in Allegan county, Michigan, Grateful Acres has been a safe haven for misfit animals for 15 years. We focus on animals with special needs, including those who are aged, disabled, maladjusted, or traumatized. We are not a dog and cat rescue, though there are an abundance of both here. We are not a pet adoption agency, though there is the occasional perfect match. We define ourselves as a care-for-life sanctuary. Our residents include large farm animals, small exotics, parrots, rabbits, chickens, and the petting farm favorite, a tortoise called "Gwennie." New animals arrive often, from all over Michigan and beyond. We take calls from the public, and we work with various animal control agencies, humane societies, veterinarians, and other rescues. In 2004, we designated part of the sanctuary as a petting farm, and opened on weekends for visitors. Spring 2008 will begin the 4th year of the petting farm, sure to be our best year yet! Proceeds from the petting farm are used to support our rescue work, but the costs far exceed the income. For that reason, we hope that you will donate to Grateful Acres. |
